Our review
When it comes to other fuel card offers on the market, the Mobil Card is limited as there are only 135 Mobil sites Australia-wide. Where there are Mobil sites, it’s often in regional parts of the country. The major benefit of the Mobil Card is its $0.00 monthly card fees, as well as $0.00 transaction fees. It also offers extras discounts (between 5-20% discount) thanks to its partnership with several key auto retailers including Supercheap Auto, Tyrepower, Bob Jane, O’Brien and more.
There are fuel discounts, but it depends on your level of fuel usage per year. For example, for 30,000L per year, you could save 2c/l on unleaded, or 4c/l on premium. You could save 2c/l on Diesel. The more fuel you use in a year, the more you can save.
While 7-Eleven fuel sites carry Mobil fuel, the Mobil Card cannot be used at 7-Eleven service stations (however this may be changing in the future). The card can be used for fuel, or for fuel and in-store purchases. All Mobil Cards are PIN-enabled and link to the details of the driver and vehicle for added security.
If you’re not traveling to regional parts of Australia, Mobil might not be the right choice for you. However, unlike other providers, there is no inactive card fee. This means you can simply keep the Mobil Card in your back pocket for the times you ever do find yourself at a Mobil site. Or, you can simply use it for the extras.
Security features
There are several security features to choose from, including:
- Vehicle only (can only be used with the assigned vehicle)
- Driver only (can be used with any vehicle but only by the assigned driver
- Vehicle and driver (can only be used with the assigned vehicle and by the assigned driver)
You can choose between setting a PIN for all cards, on certain cards, or no PIN at all. You can also set card limits based on fuel type, dollars per day, dollars per month, dollars per transaction or number of transactions per day.
