Our review
The FleetCard sits at the premium end of fuel cards suited to businesses that don’t want to be restricted to using one fuel station, and it’s packed full of features. The card has been designed with user flexibility and convenience in mind with the ability to access over 90% of fuel stations Australia wide and over 6,000 non-fuel merchants, many of which have their own exclusive discounts on.
What this means for a driver / employee is assurance that everything is taken care of while they’re on the road – from fuel and oil to repairs. From a management perspective, these benefits can be monitored, controlled and restricted at a card level. As everything is charged to the one card, it also means countless admin time saved.
Like its competitor WEX, Fleet Card have had its share of criticisms from past customers which stem from promotional offerings that make it seem like less money will be spent overall through direct fuel discounts, which sadly isn’t the case for a premium offering. While they have been more upfront on fees and changing their messaging, we’d still like to see a more up to date fee schedule that has clarity around transaction pricing (if any).
While pump discounts and $0 transaction fees last for 6 – 12 months (depending on which promo you choose), the pump discounts you’ll receive – if any – after that period has ended is dependent on your business and your FleetCard Account Manager. Transaction fees likely apply once the promo period ends, but according to FleetCard this fee will be dependent on your business and its expenditure throughout the promo period. Monthly card fees may also increase after the promo period ends. Essentially, transaction fees, pump discounts and monthly card fees are subject to change after the promo period ends. FleetCard says it informs customers 30 days prior to any changes being made.
FleetCard Fees & Savings
What does the FleetCard cost? There are no account management or joining fees, and how much you pay per month will depend on the promotional offer available at the time. For example FleetCard often have promotional offers which last between 6 to 12 months where they aggressively discount the monthly management fee from $5.99 (ex GST) to $0.99 with fuel savings of 6c/l at Shell and Coles Express. There is usually always a promotion on.
Following the end of your promo period, it is unclear how much you’ll pay per month per card and if transaction fees apply, but current FleetCard customers suggest fees do go up following the end of the promotional period. You should receive any changes to your account fees 30 days prior to changes being made. If you’re concerned about increasing fees, you can speak to your dedicated FleetCard Account Manager who might be able to negotiate a better deal.
Other fees include:
Late payment: $60 plus a % of your balance
Dishonour fee: $30
Interest: 51 days interest free, thereafter if you fail to pay your balance in full, a 0.07% interest rate applies.

Paper statements: $10 per document (free via email)
Replacement card fee: $15 per card
Processing fees: A credit card processing fee of 1.15% for Visa, 1.21% for Mastercard and 2.5% for American Express.

Getting the most out of the FleetCard Fuel Card
To get the most out of this card, you should still ‘shop around’ for the lowest fuel prices using services like petrolspy.com.au. You could also begin utilising FleetCards partner network to combine common vehicle maintenance charges like tyres, servicing, and repair to the card – while they do have partner discounts, it’s not stackable with promotions and often based on RRP
