WEX Motorpass has increased its transaction fees to 0.75c.
Fees were previously 0.50c per transaction, and as of 10 January 2021, have jumped 0.25c to 0.75c per transaction. This applies to all fuel stations, except Coles Express, where instead a 2% surcharge applies. This surcharge has not changed.
Its monthly card management fee has not changed either, with 1-5 cards costing $5 per card, 6-10 cards costing $4.50 per card, 11-24 cards costing $4.00 per card, and 25+ cards incurring a fee of $3.85 per card.
Why has WEX Increased its Fees?Â
Our best guess as to why WEX Motorpass increased its transaction fees is because many businesses are trying to reduce costs where they can, and instead are looking at solutions where there is always a discount and no transaction fee.
For example, Shell Card has a simple monthly fee structure of $2.50 per card, and zero transaction fees. Meanwhile, there is a fixed savings of 2c/l for regular fuel and 4c/l for premium fuel at Shell stations. Why the Shell Card might not work for some businesses is due to the fact it is a single brand card, meaning you can only use it at Shell and Shell branded stations like Shell, Coles Express, Liberty and Westside. WEX Motorpass, however, gives you access to almost all fuel stations Australia wide.
Why Premium Fuel Card Make the Most Sense for Many BusinessesÂ
When you look at it from a convenience point of view, a premium fuel card – meaning a multi-brand fuel card you can use almost anywhere – still makes the most sense. From an employee/driver perspective, you can rest assured you’ll never be stranded or without fuel when on the road working.
From an employer point of view, you can have peace of mind your employees are filling up and getting back on the road faster without having to search for a specific fuel site. And, the transaction fee is really minor when up against the convenience factor.
